{"id":2901,"date":"2023-10-04T12:20:01","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T10:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/database.enen.eu\/?p=2901"},"modified":"2023-10-04T12:20:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T10:20:01","slug":"intensive-introductory-course-on-nuclear-non-proliferation-and-disarmament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/database.enen.eu\/index.php\/2023\/10\/04\/intensive-introductory-course-on-nuclear-non-proliferation-and-disarmament\/","title":{"rendered":"Intensive introductory course on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the European Union Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC) invite students of engineering disciplines to apply for an intensive introductory course on the proliferation of nuclear weapons, mechanisms to control their further spread, the security of nuclear materials and installations, and pathways to disarmament. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The course will take place\u00a0<strong>28\u201330 November 2023\u00a0<\/strong>in<strong> Stockholm, Sweden.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The course has two main objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">to<strong> enable students of engineering disciplines to use their knowledge and expertise to build their future careers<\/strong> in the fields of non-proliferation and disarmament, including by addressing the risks of nuclear proliferation through technological developments; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">to <strong>raise awareness among the students of proliferation risks<\/strong> associated with engineering disciplines.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The course will <strong>cover the fundamentals of nuclear weapons<\/strong>, as well as of missiles and other means of delivery of nuclear weapons; threats associated with the military and potential terrorist use of radioactive and nuclear material; arms control treaties; non-proliferation treaties and their means of verification; export controls; financial expenditure associated with developing and maintaining nuclear weapons, and mechanisms aimed at achieving disarmament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">The <strong>course will also examine gender perspectives on armament and disarmament and cover potential career paths in these disciplines.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The language of instruction is English.<\/strong> There is <strong>no tuition fee,<\/strong> and S<strong>IPRI will cover accommodation and economy class roundtrip costs for students travelling from Europe<\/strong> upon request.
